Late Penalty Wins Match For Brora
By Courtesy of www.highlandleague.net.
Cameron is spot on to win it for Brora Print
Fort William's hopes of a first Highland League win in two years were dashed by a late Brora Rangers penalty at Claggan Park with the Lochaber men's steady improvement yet to be converted into any league points.

The hosts had their chances and went close on six minutes when Sean Ellis saw a curling drive from 25 yards parried by Brora goalkeeper Michael McCallum. The loose ball fell to the feet of Andy Martin but he fired agonisingly wide.

Then on 19 minutes, it was Martin who was at the heart of things for the home side again when he found himself with the ball at his feet after Drew Ferguson had forced McCallum to spill a cross from the right. Again though, Martin fired high and wide.

Ellis went close again on 37 minutes with a 20 yarder that flew over the crossbar but it was at the other end of the pitch where the best chance of the half occurred.

Jamie McKay was unmarked on the danger area to meet a cross into the box and with only the goalkeeper to beat, he headed wide four minutes before the interval.

Half time: Fort William 0 Brora Rangers 0

The woodwork kept Brora level on the hour mark when Ellis again proved to be a thorn in the visitors' side. This time he let fly with a curling effort that had McCallum beaten but came back off the crossbar.

At the other end, Brora hit the woodwork themselves when Mark McKernie's cross-come-shot clipped the bar on its way over the top.

Brora made sure of all three points on 86 minutes when Cameron headed a cross from the right goalwards. With John Campbell beaten, defender Graham Bamber tipped the ball over the crossbar from the goal line. Referee Doug Ross had no option but to dismiss the Fort man and award Brora a penalty which was coolly converted by John Cameron to give the visitors the win and dash Fort's hopes of getting off the mark.
