Meadow Put Brora Out To Grass

Quick double either side of half time sees Meadow progress at Brora Print
It wasn't to be the dream return to Dudgeon Park for veterans Gary Farquhar and David Ross as Brora Rangers had their Cup hopes dashed by Irvine Meadow. The Cattachs can take a lot of heart from their spirited display against one of the top junior clubs in the country but ultimately it wasn't to be for Andy Macleod's men.

Irvine Meadow applied the early pressure in a tense opening period. A Chris Robertson free kick came back off the post and that was the closest chance of note from the start of the game.

The visitors took the lead four minutes before the break when David Ross' attempted clearance landed at the feet of Stephen Swift and with the aid of a deflection, h put the visitors in charge of this tie.

Half time: Brora Rangers 0 Irvine Meadow 1

Just three minutes in the second half, Irvine Meadow all but booked their place in the Second Round. Too much room was allowed in the wide areas and when the cross was finally delivered, repetitive errors allowed the ball to break to John Boyle and he fired home from five yards.

Brora's best chance of the game came on 63 minutes. The ball fell nicely to Scott Begg who's vicious cross-come-shot just missed Liam Baxter.

On 77 minutes, Begg had the ideal chance to pull one back for the home side. This time he managed to get in behind the home defence but he slipped at the crucial moment meaning it was an easy save for visiting goalkeeper Brian Hewitt.

In the final minute of play, Meadow had their best chance to add a third when Chris Drain ran through one-on-one with Michael McCallum but he blasted his shot high over the crossbar. It wasn't to matter though as the visitors made the long trip south again having secured their place in Wednesday's draw.

Full time: Brora Rangers 0 Irvine Meadow 2
