A scintillating ten minute hat-trick from Keith striker Jamie Lennox was the highlight of the Maroons comfortable home win over Brora Rangers. The slim Lennox grabbed his first treble for the Maroons in memorable fashion, lighting up an already sun drenched Kynoch Park.
The home side really should have won by a barrowload, but after the first half sensation, their only other goal came in the last minute from substitute Ritchie Craig.
The Maroons had Dean Donaldson in the starting line-up for the first time since his return from surgery and it was one way traffic right from the off. "Deano" and Cammy Keith both missed out in front of goal in the opening minutes.
Then on fire Jamie Lennox set the place alight with his terrific threesome. He broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, when Daniel Park lofted the ball into the danger area from out on the right, and the striker pounced to blast home from 10 yards.
Three minutes he was on the mark again, good play from Lonie setting up Donaldson, who cut inside for the bold Lennox to ram home from 12 yards. Lennox was on treble time on the half hour mark when Cammy Keith set the ball into his path, and he surged forward brushing aside a couple of challenges before coolly sweeping the ball wide of the Brora goalie Michael Macallum.
At the onset of the second half, the Maroons threatened to run riot, with Stuart Walker's header being cleared off the line, Lennox heading over the bar, and Cammy Keith hitting the woodwork, then seeing his effort bounce off a defender.
Brora began to hit back after that as Keith seemed to take their foot off the gas, but it was substitute Sean Keith who came nearest scoring a minute after coming onto the park, but his angled drive crashed back off the foot of the far post.
The Maroons were also denied a penalty with ten minutes remaining when Cammy Keith seemed to be sent tumbling inside the six yard box, but the referee waved aside all protestations.
The scoring was completed in the final minute when Cammy Keith cut the ball across the outside of the six yard box, and alert substitute Ritchie Craig cutely back heeled the ball into the corner of the net, to wind up a comfortable afternoon's work for Martin Allan's men. |
